SUMMARY

HVAC, plumbing and electrical design for DC-1 and DC-2 at the New Jersey One Data Center in Edison New Jersey. The project design included approximately 123,000 SF of Data Center Space plus new rooms housing mechanical and electrical utilities. Two 1250 ton Packaged Chilled Water Plants were designed to handle the initial cooling requirements. Ultimately, the eight more packaged central plants can be added, without downtime, to provide a total of 12,500 tons of cooling for the Data Center. A 20MW, 12.47KV stand-by generator plant was designed using 8, 2.5MW generators and 1200 amp paralleling switchgear along with secondary unit-substations for power distribution. The facility is designed for compliance with Uptime Institute Tier 3. Construction completed in 2012.

SUMMARY

HVAC, plumbing and electrical design for the Phases 6 and 7 at Go Daddy’s Buckeye Road Facility in Phoenix, Arizona. This project included New Server Rooms ‘F’, ‘G’, ‘H’ and ‘I’ and two new MDF Rooms (20,300 SF Total). New Power Distribution Systems were designed with 2MW diesel-powered generators, Service Entrance Equipment with auto throw-over switches and 1.5MW UPS Systems. The mechanical systems also included expansion of the existing Central Plant to add a new 700-ton chiller. Design completed in 2011.

Phoenix NAP Data Center Build-Out

SUMMARY

HVAC, plumbing and electrical design for the Build Out of a New Data Center at 3402 W. University Drive in Tempe, Arizona for CWIE. This First Phase included 32,000 SF of Data Center space and a 3,000 SF Meet Me Room on the First Floor along with a Packaged Central Plant. The electrical distribution system included an 11-generator paralleled power system using 2MW, 12.47KV generators and 1200 amp switchgear. Design was completed in 2009. Subsequent Phases will include the build-out of the Second Floor Data Center (approximately 32,000 SF), the build-out of the 2-story Data Center on the south end of the building (approximately 16,000 SF) and the conversion of the 2-story East Office into a 2-story Data Center (approximately 30,000 SF). Construction scheduled to be completed in 2010.

HVAC and electrical design for the addition of new Power Distribution Units and Computer Room Air Conditioners for a new 1,300 SF Tenant Improvement on the 1st Floor Data Center at the Verizon Facility located at 3415 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix, Arizona. AZPE design and specified an underfloor air distribution system using perforated floor tiles in the “cold aisles”, modifications to the existing HVAC system using Computer Room Air Conditioning Units and standby power systems, including Power Distribution Units (PDU’s). Construction completed in 2009.

HVAC, plumbing and electrical engineering services for the 8,700 SF tenant improvement for Blood Systems Incorporated in Phoenix, Arizona. The TI included a 2,000 SF Data Room and a 2,000 SF Hardware Room. The remaining 4,700 SF was built out as a conference room, offices, open office area, a breakroom and restrooms. HVAC design included modifications to the existing building HVAC system for the office areas of the project, design and specification of new CRAC units for the Data Room and UPS Room and a hydrogen exhaust system for the UPS batteries. Electrical design included panelboards, indoor lighting, a UPS power system for the IT equipment in the Data Room and a standby power system including a standby generator. Design completed in 2008.

120 E. Van Buren Data Center Utility Vault and 15 kV Switchgear Room

HVAC and electrical systems design for a new 7.2 mW primary power utility vault and a 15 kV switchgear room at the 120 E. Van Buren Facility in Phoenix, Arizona. The project included design and specification of major electrical systems requiring extensive coordination with the local electrical utility company. The electrical system included two 1200 amp redundant metal-clad service entrance switchgear sections. Power distribution throughout the building was designed with 12.47 kV feeders to multiple 2500 kVA unit substations. The SF6 dielectric gas used in the utility company’s high voltage switches required a special exhaust and make-up air system with controls to purge SF6 gas from the vault upon detecting leakage. The HVAC system also included redundant air conditioning units for the vault and switchgear room. Construction completed in 2007.

HVAC and electrical systems design for Suite 125, Suite 230, and Suite 320 for a combined approximate 60,000 SF of data center, electrical power rooms, UPS and battery systems rooms and office space. The projects included design and specification of major electrical systems including standby diesel generators and automatic transfer switches, new service entrance sections and expansion of existing service entrance equipment, UPS systems with batteries, power distribution units and branch circuit design to the equipment racks. Standby power distribution was designed for other building systems including HVAC, lighting and fire alarm. The HVAC systems included water-cooled computer room air conditioning units, a hydrogen exhaust system along with fuel oil piping, radiator piping and exhaust piping for the standby generator. Construction completed in 2005 and 2006.

HVAC and plumbing design for a 100,000 SF tenant improvement including 20,000 SF of data center in Scottsdale, Arizona. Approximately 600 tons of air-cooled computer room air conditioning units will be provided for environmental control in the data center. The office areas of the building will be provided with unitary equipment for temperature control. The fire protection system will utilize an FM-200 clean agent fire suppression system with a back-up, pre-action fire sprinkler system in the critical areas and a standard wet pipe type fire sprinkler system throughout the office areas. Construction completed in 2002.

Packaged rooftop heat pump units were utilized in the office areas for temperature control. A special, redundant, hydrogen exhaust system was designed for the battery room per City of Phoenix requirements. Construction completed in 2002.

HVAC and plumbing design for 7,300 SF of communications facility at the Terry Ranch, Colorado site. The project included 2,500 SF of remodeled space containing switchgear and a 1,300 amp DC power plant. It also included a 4,800 SF new addition containing high-density switchroom space and a 3,000 amp DC power plant. The design used redundant packaged air-conditioning units in the remodel area and redundant, air-cooled computer room air conditioning units in the new addition. Hydrogen detection systems and redundant exhaust systems were provided in the DC power plants. A 5,000 gallon underground diesel fuel storage system was added for the new back-up generator. Construction completed in 2002.

HVAC design for the remodel of approximately 7,000 SF of switchroom space in Phoenix, Arizona. This included the addition of 55 tons of water-cooled computer room air conditioning equipment along with the installation of a new condenser water pumping system with 100% redundancy. A special hydrogen exhaust system was designed to remove hydrogen exhaust from the battery racks in the switchrooms. This exhaust system incorporated hooded enclosures, which were exhausted through specially designed window panels in this high-rise building. Construction completed in 2001.

The existing warehouse building HVAC and plumbing infrastructure was upgraded to accommodate the requirements of the building’s telecommunications tenants. DHMW provided conceptual HVAC layouts for the leasing agent to use in marketing the building to tenants. DHMW reviewed the design of mechanical tenant improvements prepared by other engineering firms. Renovation of the shell building completed in 2001.
